LAKEWOOD – The 2026 Colorado High School Activities Association’s Girls Track and Field State Championship concluded Saturday at Jeffco Stadium. Throughout the three days, 70 individual champions were crowned across the five classifications, in addition to 20 relay champions. Among the teams, there was one first-time champion – Mountain Vista (5A) – and one team claiming its first title since 2012, but sixth overall, in Lyons (2A). Merino (1A) also won its third title in the last four years, while The Classical Academy (3A) won its third-straight and Niwot (4A) captured its seventh-straight.
On Thursday, two state meet records fell, as Roosevelt’s Braelyn Bailey took down her own 4A state meet record in the high jump, clearing 5-10 to break her winning mark of 5-9 from a year ago. The 12-year-old 3A state meet record in the discus was also broken, with Manitou Springs’ Mackinzy Wall throwing 147-09 to better the previous mark of 143-09, set by The Classical Academy’s Hannah Carr in 2014.
The next day, three 1A state meets fell, with McClave’s Addison Vallejos being apart of two of those record breaking performances. In the triple jump, Vallejos jumped 35-04.50 to better Lone Star’s Alivia Weathers’ mark of 35-03.25 from 2022. She also teammed with Ashlynn Steinbrunn, Abrielle Gomez and Kristen Marks to run 1:47.05 in the 4×200 to break Deer Trail’s mark of 1:47.88 from 2024. Merino’s 4×800 quartet of Hailey Foos, Analeigh Hackbarth, Kya Piel and Laney Piel also broke the 1A meet record, finishing in 10:17.81. That mark shattered Plateau Valley’s time of 10:28.66 from 2018.
On the final day, Cheyenne Wells’ Roxy Unruh bettered her 1A state meet record in the 200m, running 25.37 to beat her time of 25.58 from last year. She caps off her career with 10 individual track and field state championships, becoming the fourth female sprinter in state history to win four-straight 100m state titles (the first since Paonia’s Halley Parks from 2003-06) and the third to win four-straight 200m state titles (the first since Liberty’s Ashley Owens did so from 2001-04). She also holds three 1A state meet records in the 100m, 200m and 400m.
Niwot’s Addison Ritzenhein also capped off an incredible career, winning her seventh individual track and field state championship on Friday, setting a 4A state meet record in the 1600m. Her time of 4:44.47 bettered Air Academy’s Katie Rainsberger’s mark of 4:45.27 from 2016. With her 3200m win on Friday she became the fourth female runner in CHSAA history to win four-straight 3200m state titles.
Additional individual champions will be awarded tomorrow with all team champions being named Saturday.
