Committee Meeting Recap: Officials Advisory
GREENWOOD VILLAGE – The Colorado High School Activities Association’s Officials Advisory Committee met for its first of two meetings of the 2026-27 school year at Make A Wish Foundation Thursday morning.
The committee is in its first year and is a collaborative group composed of officials from CHSAA-recognized officials associations across the state; leaders in the realm of officiating to ensure broad and balanced representation across geography, classification, gender, historically underrepresented communities and experience; as well as school and athletic administrators.
The committee was created to support the profession of officiating, enhance the quality and consistency of officiating experiences, and to ensure alignment with the values of educationally based athletics and activities.
Discussion topics throughout the meeting included:
- Officials recruitment, retention and growth; specifically, what is being done in each of these areas,
- The postseason officials selection process,
- Game end ejection reports,
- Officials’ accountability and expectations,
- The future of video replay,
- Ejection review for physical acts and more.
The biggest discussions revolved around obstacles that need to be removed in order to increase retention among officials, concerns and accountability issues by assigners to ensure the right officials are on the right games, and CHSAA’s new video review policy for ejections and how that impacts officials.
In the lead up to the February meeting, the committee is going to work on developing a CHSAA Officials Assigner Agreement, an Officials Code of Ethics and guidelines for a potential Conflict of Interest Policy.
The full Officials Advisory Committee report with any proposals and/or recommendations will be presented at the April Legislative Council meeting.
