Ice Hockey: Quarterfinal Round Underway




AURORA – The first day of the quarterfinal round of CHSAA’s Ice Hockey State Championships is completed, with five of the eight games being played between the two classifications.
The 4A bracket saw its biggest upset, as the No. 8 Colorado Springs District 11 team took down top-seeded Battle Mountain, 3-1. Meanwhile, No. 2 Colorado Academy cruised to a 6-0 win over No. 10 Liberty and No. 3 Pine Creek escaped No. 6 Standley Lake, 1-0. The final quarterfinal game will be played Wednesday when No. 4 Steamboat Springs hosts No. 5 Cheyenne Mountain.
In 5A, No. 1 Poudre School District advanced wtih a 3-1 win over No. 9 Chaparral, while XX. The other two quarterfinal games will be played Wednesday at the South Suburban Sports Complex. No. 3 Cherry Creek will meet No. 6 Mountain Vista at 5:10 p.m. and No. 4 Regis Jesuit will take on No. 5 Denver East at 7:40 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance.
All four winners in each bracket will advance to the semifinals, which will be played on Saturday at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs.
