LAKEWOOD – Historically a two-sport athlete, Jordan Halley made some changes this year.
Though she also plays volleyball, the University junior turned her focus to track and field and it has clearly paid off. On Thursday at Jefferson County Stadium, Halley jumped 18 feet, 3.5 inches to win her first state title in the Class 3A long jump.
“I felt like it was in me and I’m really happy that it finally came together this year,” Halley said. “I’m really happy that I had this opportunity and I have the coach that I have that got me here. Having my teammates behind to me to support me was amazing. I really started focusing in on track this year and I was really happy to see how good I got throughout the year, so that made me feel really good.”
In the 3A girls shot put, Coal Ridge senior Brilee Jensen won her second state title - and first since 2023 - with a throw of 40-3.25.
In the 3A girls 3,200-meter relay, the team from The Classical Academy – Jana Yuschalk, Joy Ahnfeldt, Makenzie Bachman and Vivian Jack – brought home the gold with a time of 9 minutes, 33.87 seconds.
