LAKEWOOD – More history for Timnath.
On Saturday at Jefferson County Stadium, the Timnath girls track and field team ran away with the team scoring competition and finished with 131 team points to win the Class 2A state championship. It was the first girls track title in Timnath history and the first team title in any sport since the new school opened.
The old Timnath High School, which was open from 1919-60, won a boys track title in 1953.
“These are kids that really took a risk,” Timnath coach Matt Miltenberg said. “We talked about this last year when we won our first individual titles, but they took a risk coming to a new school. They took a risk trying a new program – for a lot of them, this is their first time ever doing track. So for them to take all those chances and fully commit, and have it pay off like this for them, is just really special to see.”
Timnath’s Addison Geraets won gold in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.65 seconds. The Bears – Alex McKnight, Emili Voelker, Lily Eisbrener and Hannah Bittner – also won the 400-meter relay with a time of 49.85 seconds.
Heritage Christian was second in the team competition with 66 points and Dayspring Christian was third with 55.5 points.
There were a number of other exceptional individual performances on Saturday as well.
Dayspring Christian’s Eboselulu Omofoma capped a four-for-four career in the 2A 100-meter hurdles by setting a 2A state meet record of 14.24 seconds as a senior. It was the second time she won an event for the fourth time in her high school career after doing the same in the high jump on Thursday.
“It’s going better than I imagined. I’m grateful for that, completely grateful,” Omofoma said. “The meet record kind of feels like I’m leaving something here for someone else to beat, for 2A to look to something to really push the competition.”
Later in the day, Omofoma also won the triple jump with a mark of 35-11.75. Dayspring Christian – Elizabeth Casey, Lexa Jackson, Angela Friedman and Omofoma – also won the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:04.88.
In the 2A girls 100-meter dash, Kaitlyn Pearson of Swallows Charter Academy placed first with a time of 12.35 seconds.
Strasburg’s Peighton Marrero won the 2A girls 400-meter run with a time of 56.24.
Cedaredge senior Elizabeth Brooks threw 136-11 in the discus to claim the 2A title.
Swallows Charter Academy’s Kaitlyn Pearson won the 2A 200-meter dash in 25.45 seconds.
In the 1,600, The Vanguard’s Nadhia Campos won the gold with a time of 5:12.60.
