LAKEWOOD – Friday was a day of firsts for sophomore Cameron Glasgow and the Timnath track and field program.
During the Colorado high school track and field state championships at Jefferson County Stadium on Friday, Glasnow cleared 13 feet, 6 inches in the 2A boys pole vault to claim the state championship. Not only was it Glasnow’s first title, it was the first boys title for Timnath track and field in the program's two-year history.
“It’s our first pole vault title and our first boys title,” said Glasgow, who placed eighth in the pole vault last season. “It was great. It’s just my second year vaulting and I can’t believe I’ve come this far. I have to thank my coaches, my family, everybody, for everything. The weather was great and the atmosphere was really good.
“It feels awesome just to be able to represent my school like this and to show we’re good and we’re here to compete.”
Natalie Washburn won Timnath’s first girls individual title last year, claiming gold in the 2A girls 800-meter run last season. The Cubs also won the 3,200-meter relay title in 2023.
Entering the 2A boys discus at the third seed, Plateau Valley’s Jackson Bevan picked a great time to have a great day. In the finals at state, Bevan threw 151 feet, 2 inches to win his first state title.
“I’m super excited. It took lots of hard work, but I’m glad I could get it done,” Bevan said. “My dad was a big part of it. He’s my coach and he’s been pushing me the whole year. I just had to stay calm and stay in my head."
Bevan hit the winning throw on his second-to-last attempt, which was a personal record by nearly two feet.
In the 2A boys 3,200-meter run, Peyton’s Gabe Gatti took first with a time of 9:51.72.
Platte Canyon’s Tate Heineman won the 2A boys triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 4.25 inches.
In the 2A boys 800m, Peyton junior Matthew Peery took first with a time of 1:59.39.
The 2A boys 800-meter relay title went to Platte Canyon – Trevor Kirklin, Leo Batzer, Tate Heineman and Greg Oramas – as the Huskies crossed the finish line in 1:30.18.
