Valor and Golden closing in on Jeffco League girls golf team titles

GOLDEN — The wind finally calmed down to give Jeffco League girls golfers a nice day on the golf course Wednesday at Applewood Golf Course.

Valor Christian (5A Jeffco) and Golden (4A Jeffco) continued their dominance in the race for the conference team titles.

The Eagles have nearly a 200-stroke lead over Lakewood for the 5A Jeffco team title with one conference tournament remaining. The Ashley Forey Tournament scheduled for Monday, May 2, at The Club at Rolling Hills will serve as the final league tournament.

Valor freshmen Brenna Higgins and Bella Eide, along with junior Elle Higgins hold the top three spots in the individual standings. Eide won the Applewood tournament with a round of 72 on Wednesday.

On the 4A side, Golden has been as equally dominant. The Demons have almost a 200-stroke lead over Dakota Ridge for the 4A Jeffco team title heading into the sixth and final league tournament next week.

Golden has five golfers — Mollie Todd, Jessica Morrissey, Chloe Flannigan, Olivia Dorland and Ellary Ranney — in the top-7 of the individual standings. Todd captured the individual title at Applewood with a round of 79.

Conifer sophomore McKenzie Dolph still has a chance to prevent Golden from sweeping the team and individual medalist title in 4A Jeffco this year. Dolph sits in second place in the individual standings heading into Monday’s tournament at Rolling Hills.
