Cherry Creek boys swimming gets huge dual win over rival Regis Jesuit
GREENWOOD VILLAGE — In a mid-season swim dual, Cherry Creek looked like it was in postseason form, beating rival Regis Jesuit 166-149.
The difference in the meet for the Bruins, of course, came down to the tight races. A photo finish kicked off the night in the 200-medley relay as the Bruin’s A-team won by .32 seconds with a time of one minute, 35.48 seconds.
The second place race in the 200-freestyle relay was even closer as Cherry Creek won that race by two-hundredths of a second with a time of 1:30.88.
Finally, the Bruins finished it off as junior anchor Alex Bruce made what was a close finish, into a comfortable victory for the Bruins.
Cherry Creek got a huge performance out of senior leader J.J. Strain.
“I felt strong today, and I am really happy about the pool record in the medley relay,” Strain said. “The team got the job done and that’s what counts. The season isn’t over and we still have a lot of tough fights left this season. But I am happy with where we stand. We put Colorado swimming on notice.”
The win against Regis was huge for the Bruins, and they look to use it to propel them for the rest of the season.
“It is a really great to win any meet,” Strain said. “Especially against one of the best teams in the state. We can be happy tonight but the job isn’t over. We have practice in the morning and we are going to prepare, like always, for our next meet.”
Cherry Creek will be back in the water Thursday afternoon as they host Overland. Regis Jesuit will also be back in the water on Thursday as they host the Douglas County Huskies.
