5A Girls Basketball: Great 8 Update

DENVER - The Great 8, the quarterfinal round, of the Colorado High School Activities Association's 5A Girls Basketball State Championship, was completed on Saturday, with winners advancing to the Final Four - the semifinal round - on Thursday.

The day started with No. 2 Green Mountain, led by Addie Evans' 17 points, outscoring No. 7 Mead 12-4 in the fourth quarter for a 50-40 victory. In the thrilling second game, freshman Jojo Martin had a steal and made a floater at the buzzer, capping a 33-point game, as No. 5 Standley Lake defeated No. 4 Windsor 68-66. Then Mayce Oberg scored 20 points as No. 3 Montrose overcame 36 points and eight rebounds by Kinley Asp to defeat No. 6 Air Academy, 61-54. Lutheran capped off the day, as Berkley Schneider scored a game-high 18 points to lead the top seed to a 50-30 win over Pueblo East. 

After Thursday's semifinals, the 5A championship game will be played Saturday, March 14 at 5:45 p.m.
