4A Girls Basketball: Great 8 Update

DENVER - The Great 8, the quarterfinal round of the Colorado High School Activities Association's 4A Girls Basketball State Championship, took place Wednesday, with winners advancing to the Final Four - the semifinal round - on Friday.

In Wednesday's opening game, Tiana Guzman scored 15 points as No. 2 Timnath defeated No. 7 Colorado Academy 43-28, despite 12 points and 19 rebounds by Sam Clevenger. Then Gracie Ward scored 18 points to lead No. 4 Holy Family to a 42-32 win over No. 5 Sterling. In game three, Austin Duncan had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds to lead No. 3 Kent Denver to a 49-24 victory against No. 6 D'Evelyn. And the final game of the night was a thriller, as University's Natalie Galindo made a short jumper with 2.5 seconds left, just 10 seconds after Alamosa's Ashlyn Rice had tied the game with her second clutch 3-pointer, and the No. 1 Bulldogs survived the No. 8 Mean Moose 45-43.

After Friday's semifinals, the 4A championship game will be played Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m.
