Wrestling: Six Teams, 84 Individuals Win State Titles

DENVER - Five teams and 84 individuals were crowned state champions Saturday, the final day of the 2026 Colorado High School Activites Association's Wrestling State Championships, at Ball Arena.

Over the course of the three days, over 1,300 wrestlers competed with one champion being named in each of the 14 weight classes across all six classification.

Among the teams, Highland captured its first-ever wrestling title, winning 2A, while Grand Junction Central (5A girls), Pueblo Central (4A girls), Pueblo East (4A boys) and Pomona (5A boys) all defended titles from a year ago. Pomona, which went nine-for-nine in the championship round, shattered its own state record for points (previously 278.5 from 2023), while Eaton rounded out the winners with its fourth 3A title in the last seven years.

During the championships, CHSAA honored its coaches with 40, 30 and 20+ years of service. Ty Tatham (Mead, Longmont, Western State) was the lone 40-year honoree, while Mike Thompson (Legacy, Pueblo County) and Paul Bonner (Salida/Peyton, Monte Vista, Del Norte) were honored for 30 years. The 20-year honorees include Doug Pfeifer (Riverdale RIdge, Brighton, Westminster), Frank Trujillo (Alameda International, Green Mountain, Lakewood), Daniel Rosales (Lincoln, Pomona, Westminster), Ryan Corn (Olathe), Bill Forgey (Springfield) and Todd Corn (Gunnison, La Junta, Northglenn).
