5A Baseball: Surprise Teams Emerge from Regionals

AURORA – Regional play was completed Saturday in the 5A CHSAA Baseball State Tournament.

Regional winners have advanced to double-elimination state tournaments in each class that are played out over the next two weekends.

Three surprise teams have emerged into the round of eight, as No. 27 Chatfield and No. 26 Legend joined Friday night regional winner No. 14 Mountain Vista as regional champions. Chatfield defeated No. 6 Brighton and No. 11 Fort Collins to advance, while Legacy knokced off No. 7 Rocky Mountain and No. 10 Cherry Creek.

On Friday in 5A, No. 14 Mountain Vista captured the Region 3 tournament, defeating No. 19 Valor Christian 7-4 before topping No. 3 Erie 10-1 in the championship game.
