5A Diving: Ogren Earns Three-Peat at State Championships

THORNTON – Luke Ogren has done it again.

On Thursday at Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center, the Cherry Creek senior posted a score of 622.85 in the Class 5A diving state finals. With the victory, Ogren has now won the last three diving titles in the classification.

“It’s my last state meet right before I leave for college and my last high school meet ever, so it was really great to win it,” Ogren said. “The score was just around what I was hoping for. I was kind of hoping to break the state record, but I kind of flopped on one dive so that didn’t end up happening. It’s just great to see all the work I’ve been putting in pay off.”

Ogren topped his final score of 615.65 last season, which was the highest recorded at a Colorado High School Activities Association's boys state meet since 2021, when Regis Jesuit senior Quinn Henninger notched a score of 642.80.

Ogren was also voted 5A Diver of the Year.

“It’s just amazing. It just really shows how hard I’ve worked,” said Ogren, who will compete at the United States Naval Academy next year.

Andrew Garrison from Ranch Boys Co-op finished runner-up with a score of 541.60. Northfield’s Dennis Kolesnikov was third with a score of 538.60. Chatfield’s Brecken Moran (517.15) was fourth. Ranch Boys Co-op’s Bruno Albertoni (512.50) was fifth.

Fort Collins’ Aidan Favela (499.65) was sixth, Northfield’s Carter Bachman (495.30) was seventh, Heritage’s Connor Dreiling (472.10) was eighth, Ranch Boys Co-op’s Bryson Ohrtman (461.15) was ninth and Arvada West’s Nathan Bierbrauer (460.00) was 10th.

Cherry Creek coach Mitchell Sedlmayr was voted 5A Diving Coach Of the Year.

Last season, Cherry Creek won its first boys swimming and diving team state championship since 2021, and the program's 13th overall. Off to a good start towards a potential title defense after Ogren’s diving gold, the Bruins will continue their title bid at the 5A swim finals on Friday evening.
