THORNTON -- Halfway through the two-round CHSAA 5A Girls Golf State Championship, Valor Christian and Legend are separated by one stroke.
Valor Christian compiled a three-player team score of 233 and Legend shot 234 on Monday at Todd Creek Golf Club. The final 18 holes are set for Tuesday. Valor Christian is seeking its fourth straight state championship, while Legend is chasing what would be its first ever in the sport.
Fittingly, one player from each team is tied for first: Valor Christian's Ella Scott and Legend's Maddie Makino each shot ever-par 72 over the 5,769-yard course.
Legend's Adyson Ice is third after shooting 73, and four strokes behind her and tied for fourth at 5-over are Tatum Platt of Cherry Creek and Lilie Cohen of Chaparral. Tied for sixth at 6-over are Chloe Hartojo of Legacy, Addison Hines of Ralston Valley and Audrey Whitmore of Regis Jesuit, and there's a five-player tie for ninth at 7-over.
The tournament concludes with another 18-hole round Tuesday. The top two teams receive trophies, while the top 10 individuals earn medals.
