4A Girls Golf: Riverdale Ridge Leads After Opening Round of State

BROOMFIELD -- Riverdale Ridge, seeking its first-ever state title in the sport, has a nine-stroke lead after Monday's opening round of the two-round CHSAA 4A Girls Golf State Championship.

The Ravens, led by Karina Panyavong's round of 6-over par 78 for fourth place and Brynn Bailliet's round of 9-over for sixth, compiled a three-player team score of 245 at Broadlands Golf Course. Durango is second at 254, and Air Academy is third at 260.

Air Academy has the leading individiual after the first round as freshman Landry Frost carded a 1-over 73 on the 5,835-yard course, recording three birdies. Macy Kleve of Windsor and Kaylee Meyering of Ponderosa are tied for second at 3-over, two strokes behind Frost.

Between the Riverdale Ridge teammates in fourth and sixth is Niwot's Wendy Cheruiyot, who shot 8-over for fifth. The rest of the top 10 includes Durango's Raimee Brant, seventh at 82, an eighth-place tie between Jordyn Bandemer of Loveland and Sophia Capua of Vista Peak at 83, and a 10th-place tie between Olivia Meyering of Ponderosa and Olivia Dorland of Golden at 84.

Last year, Kleve tied for second, and Olivia Meyering was ninth.

The tournament concludes with another 18-hole round Tuesday. The top two teams receive trophies, while the top 10 individuals earn medals.
