3A Girls Golf: Holy Family Turns in Strong Opening Day

GREELEY -- With three individuals among the tournament's top six, Holy Family has cruised to the lead after Monday's opening round of the two-round CHSAA 3A Girls Golf State Championship.

Peyton Mraz of Holy Family is the individual leader after shooting an ever-par 72 over the 5,877-yard Boomerang Golf Links course. he scored birdies on three of the course's four par-5 holes and parred the others. Steffi Heitz of Holy Family is third after shooting 5-over 77, and teammate Acadia Curtis is sixth at 82, giving the Tigers a three-player team score of 231. Northridge is second, 20 strokes back at 251, while Mullen is third at 254.

Holy Family, last year's 4A runner-up, is seeking its first girls golf state championship.

In between Mraz and Heitz on the leaderboard is Cheyanne Schrick of Timnath, who shot 2-over. Zoe Bar-Or of Littleton is fourth at six over, and Makena Thayer of Battle Mountain is fifth at 8-over.

The rest of the top 10 after Curtis includes a three-way tie for seventh at 83 among Jane Gray of Mullen, Emmarie Miles of Northridge and Avery Tychsen of Berthoud. Five players are tied for 10th.

Last year, Schrick tied for fourth in 3A, Heitz placed 10th and Curtis was 11th. Bar-Or tied for sixth in 4A.

The tournament concludes with another 18-hole round Tuesday. The top two teams receive trophies, while the top 10 individuals earn medals.
