DENVER – The Peak to Peak girls tennis team is the 2025 Class 3A state champion.
On Tuesday at Denver Tennis Park, the top-seeded Pumas won 4-3 over No. 3 Prospect Ridge in the finals of the statewide dual-style team tournament. It was the Pumas’ first title since they won back-to-back team championships in 2018 and 2019.
“It feels fantastic,” Pumas head coach Michael Crotty said. “I think the girls deserve it. They played great all year, and they just played their game today. We're mostly seniors and it came down to two seniors. I felt that if it came down to two doubles, if we wanted one team out there, that's the team we wanted at the end to be out there.
“It's a really big deal for the school, and it’s a really big deal for the girls. What's amazing is they're academics first and so, you know, they're athletes too. But they're just well rounded girls and work real hard. We’re really proud of them.”
At No. 1 singles, Peak to Peak’s Lena Crotty won 6-0, 6-2 over Prospect Ridge’s Omi McGee. At No. 2 singles, Peak to Peak’s Sydney Lewis won 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 3 singles match, individual tournament champion Maya Anderson won 6-2, 6-4 over Peak to Peak’s Ranye Ezenekwe.
Peak to Peak’s Sydney Parkinson and Molly Kolachov, who also won the No. 1 doubles individual title on Saturday, won 6-2, 6-2 against Zerren Lutska Yazhini Godwin at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 doubles match, Peak to Peak’s El Allen-Bonney – also the individual champions for their line – and Lhadze Olsen won 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 against Stephanie Miller and Kate Nelson in what ended up being the deciding match of the morning.
Days after winning the No. 3 doubles individual title, Prospect Ridge’s Amelia Waggoner and Natalie Rooks won 6-2, 6-4 against Peak to Peak’s Jolie Sasseville and Abby Fitzgerald.
At No. 4 doubles, Prospect Ridge’s Elsie Schuler and Sarfima Tsevan defeated Kayla Fanger and Makenna Adams, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Prospect Ridge, in search of its first girls tennis team title, was making its first appearance in the finals of the new team tournament format.
