Boys Soccer: 5A Final Set, Semifinals in Other Three Classes Wednesday

AURORA — The first championship matchup for CHSAA’s Boys Soccer State Tournament has been determined, after semifinals in 5A were played Tuesday night. The other three classes will play their semifinals Wednesday.
The 5A final will feature No. 1 seed Ralston Valley and No. 6 seed Regis Jesuit.
Ralston Valley rallied to defeat No. 12 Cherokee Trail in penalty kicks after the tied played to a 1-1 tie through two overtimes. The Mustangs trailed 1-0 in the 79th minute before getting the tying goal from Ethan Orchard. Ben Brown made two saves during the PK round, and another Cherokee Trail attempt was off target. Ralston Valley will play for the boys soccer state championship for the first time in school history.
Previously, No. 6 seed Regis Jesuit defeated No. 7 Pine Creek 3-2 in Tuesday’s first game at the University of Denver’s Pioneer Field, with Jackson Huguelet scoring the game’s first and final goals. The Raiders are seeking their fifth state championship in boys soccer, which would be their first since 1996. Regis Jesuit was last in the final in 2019. The Raiders played in six straight championship games from 1991 through 1996, winning in 1991, 1992 and 1995 in addition to 1996. The program also reached the final in 2008.
All four state championship games are scheduled to be played at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs on Saturday. The 2A final will be at 9 a.m., followed by the 3A final at noon, the 4A final at 3 p.m. and the 5A final at 6 p.m.
