Flag Football: Opening Weekend Matchups Set




AURORA – The first round of the 2025 Flag Football State Championships was completed Tuesday and Wednesday night with eight first-round matchups being played. The winners all advance to the second round, which will be played this weekend as part of Opening Weekend.
Both of tonight’s first-round games in 4A were upsets, as No. 18 Littleton upset No. 15 Ponderosa, 13-7, and No. 17 Dakota Ridge snuck past No. 16 Palmer, 12-8. Dakota Ridge will now face top-seeded The Classical Academy, while Littleton will take on No. 2 Mountain View.
In 5A, No. 17 Horizon took overtime to defeat No. 16 ThunderRidge, 13-8, while No. 14 Doherty defeated No. 19 Legacy by a score of 25-21. Horizon will next meet No. 1 Mountain Vista in the second round, while Doherty will next see No. 3 Legend.
Opening Weekend will take place this Saturday at the North Area Athletic Complex (NAAC), Jeffco Stadium and Trailblazer Stadium. The 4A second round and quarterfinal round games will be played between the NAAC Soccer Field and NAAC Football Field, while the 5A games will be split between Jeffco and Trailblazer Stadium. Second-round games will bgin at 9 a.m., with the quarterfinal round slated to begin at 4:15 p.m.
Saturday’s quarterfinal round winners will advance to the semifinals, which will be played next Wednesday at Jeffco Stadium (4A) and Trailblazer Stadium (5A). The two state championship games will then be contested next Saturday, Oct. 25 at Trailblazer Stadium. The 4A final is scheduled for 4 p.m., following by the 5A championship at 6:45 p.m.
