1A Baseball: State Tournament Semifinal Field Set




AURORA — The semifinalists for CHSAA’s 1A baseball state tournament have been determined following tournament games played Saturday.
Teams needed two victories Saturday in order to advance.
No. 1 seed Akron, No. 3 Flatirons Academy and No. 4 Simla are joined in the semifinals by defending champion and No. 7 seed Merino, which knocked off No. 2 seed and previously undefeated Eads, 12-3.
Akron defeated No. 16 Sargent 18-3 and No. 8 Otis 14-1. Flatirons Academy defeated No. 14 Caliche 11-1 and No. 6 Haxtun 6-2. Simla beat No. 13 La Veta 4-3 and No. 5 Nucla 5-3. Before beating Eads, Merino beat No. 10 Cheyenne Wells 12-0.
The semifinals and championship game will be played Thursday, May 15, at Lakewood’s All-Star Park. Akron plays Simla in one semifinal, with Flatirons Academy and Merino squaring off in the other. The winners will then play for the state championship.
