6A Boys Basketball: First Round Updates




AURORA – The first round of the 2025 CHSAA 6A Boys State Tournament took place Friday, with the 16 winners advancing to the second round.
The underdog won three of the 16 games, with No. 19 Rock Canyon upsetting No. 14 Smoky Hill, 81-67, No. 22 Overland cruising past No. 11 Broomfield, 74-53, and No. 25 Grandview continuing its hot streak with a 59-55 win over No. 8 Horizon.
Three games were decided within 10 points, with No. 2 Eaglecrest defeating No. 34 Rocky Mountain by eight points, 61-53, and No. 16 George Washington beating No. 17 Fairview (60-51), and No. 12 defeating No. 21 Doherty (73-64) by nine points each.
Also on Friday night, No. 1 Rangeview cruised past No. 33 Cherokee Trail, 62-25, No. 3 Chaparral knocked off No. 35 Pueblo West, 75-57, No. 4 Ralston Valley cruised past No. 36 Cherry Creek, 75-43, No. 5 Valor Christian defeated No. 27 Denver East, 64-45, No. 6 Mountain Vista moved past No. 27 Loveland, 81-47, No. 7 ThunderRidge earned a 59-43 win over No. 39 Vista PEAK Prep, No. 9 Regis Jesuit knocked off No. 24 Monarch, 74-62, No. 10 Fruita Monument defeated No. 23 LIberty, 73-40, No. 13 Denver South beat No. 20 Fossil Ridge, 83-60 and No. 15 Arvada West knocked off No. 18 Northfield, 67-38.
Friday’s winners move onto the second round, which will be played next Tuesday.
