Whitton, Sowers Claim Classic Titles on Final Day of Skiing State Championships

GRANBY - On the final day of the 2024 Skiing State Championships, Battle Mountain’s Lindsey Whitton and Summit’s James Sowers claimed Nordic titles in 5k classic.
 
Whitton was the first to cross the line on the day, completing the course in 22:36, while Summit’s Ella Hagen was second in 22:52. Poudre’s Clara Statkus took third with a time of 22:56. Statkus was followed across the finish line by Lake County’s Brynna Lenhard (23:00) and Susie Bullock (23:11) who took fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
Sixth place went to Poudre’s Ellayna Potter, while seventh was claimed by Battle Mountain’s Kira Hower (23:41) and eighth by Middle Park’s Annie Kuhns (23:44). Lake County rounded out the top-10 with Aimee Lenhard taking ninth in 23:45 and teammate Clara Kirr finishing 10th in 23:45.1.
 
On the boys side, Sowers took control of the race, winning by more than 20 seconds in a time of 18:26. In second place was Summit’s Carter Niemkiewicz, turning in a time of 18:49, while Middle Park’s Dane Jenson took third in 18:55.
 
Fourth place went to Poudre’s Ethan Cooley (19:08) and fifth place was claimed by Kadin Starr of Middle Park (19:20.0), as he edged ahead of Miles Mckenzie at the finish line (19:20.1).
 
Vail Mountain’s Will Brunner finished seventh in 19:27, and he was followed by Poudre’s Cade Shortridge in eighth (19:28), Lake County’s Josiah Horning in ninth (19:34) and Battle Mountain’s John McAbee in 10th (19:37).
