DILLON - Summit High School completed the sweep of the Alpine events following the second day of the 2024 Skiing State Championships, as senior Ella Snyder and sophomore Seth Montgomery captured the state titles in slalom at Loveland Valley Ski Area Friday. Yesterday, freshman Elodie Olsen and sophomore Seth Montgomery won
the giant slalom state championships yesterday.
Snyder turned in the fastest times of both girlsruns, finishing in 47.23 and then 48.48, respectively, to take first with a combined time of 1:35.71. Summit teammate, freshman Elodie Olsen – who won the Giant Slalom state title yesterday – took second by narrowly beating Middle Park senior Olivia Niedzwiecki by less than two-tenths of a second. Olsen finished with a time of 1:37.73 (48.56, 49.17), while Niedzwiecki had a time of 1:37.92 (49.01, 48.91).
A pair of Evergreen seniors captured fourth and fifth, as Adriana Kahanek’s two races combined for the fourth-best time (48.82, 49.56; 1:38.38) and Lexi Ornstein’s time of 1:41.30 was the fifth fastest (48.93, 52.37).
Middle Park senior Emma Bellatty was close behind, narrowly beating Battle Mountain sophomore Ruthie DeMino and Summit sophomore Mackenzie Cross, who finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Bellatty turned in a time of 1:41.55 (50.52, 51.03), while DeMino had a time of 1:41.58 (49.41, 52.17) and Cross clocked in at 1:41.86 (50.69, 51.17).
In ninth place was Summit senior Luci Brady, who had a time of 1:42.30 (50.49, 51.81), and rounding out the top-10 was Vail Mountain senior Madison Milligan.
On the boys side, Montgomery had the two fastest runs of the day and won by almost two seconds, as he turned in a time of 1:31.14 (44.60, 46.54). Middle Park’s senior Garrett Gillest finished in 1:33.21 (46.01, 47.20) and Summit senior Michael Green was close behind, combining for a time of 1:33.98 to take third.
Aspen junior Jaden Schille claimed fourth place with a race time of 1:34.07 (46.55, 47.52), while Durango senior Ian Fehr took fifth in 1:35.61 (46.66, 48.95). Sixth place went to Summit freshman Aaron Green, who completed the two runs in 1:36.93. He clocked in at 47.62 through the first run and 49.31 on the second.
Middle Park junior Alex Noerdlinger took seventh with a time of 1:37.16 (48.07, 49.09), while Aspen senior Nico Smith was eighth in 1:39.12 (49.34, 49.78). Middle Park sophomore Alek Guziur took ninth (48.92, 51.16; 1:40.08) and classmate Salvador Stokeld rounded out the top-10 with at ime of 1:40.34 (49.60, 50.74).
