4A Boys Soccer: First Round Games Complete




AURORA – The first round of the 4A Boys Soccer State Championships are complete and the second round matchups are set. Of the 16 games, the higher seed prevailed in all but one, as No. 18 Montrose upset No. 15 Glenwood Springs, 6-3.
No. 1 Mullen, No. 2 Battle Mountain, No. 3 Air Academy, No. 4 Centaurus, No. 5 Silver Creek, No. 6 Longmont, No. 7 Cheyenne Mountain, No. 8 Montbello, No. 9 Durango, No. 10 Regis Groff, No. 11 Evergreen, No. 12 Niwot, No. 13 Skyview, No. 14 Greeley Central and No. 16 Golden joined Montrose in advancing.
All second round games will be hosted by the higher seeded team next Wednesday, Nov. 6.
No. 1 Mullen shutout No. 32 Falcon, 4-0, while No. 16 Golden got past No. 17 Windsor, 3-1. Mullen will host Golden in the second round.
No. 2 Battle Mountain used a 6-2 win over No. 31 Mead to advance to the second round, where it will face No. 18 Montrose. Montrose upset No. 15 Glenwood Springs, 6-3.
No. 3 Air Academy got past No. 30 D’Evelyn by a score of 3-0, while No. 14 Greeley Central defeated No. 19 Harrison, 9-1. Air Academy will host Greeley Central in the second round.
No. 4 Centaurus knocked off No. 29 Rampart, 4-1, and will next face No. 13 Skyview, which defeated No. 20 Coronado, 3-0, tonight.
No. 5 Silver Creek used a 9-1 win over No. 28 Canon City to move on to the second round. Meanwhile, No. 12 Niwot got past No. 21 Wheat Ridge, 2-0, and will face Silver Creek in the next round.
No. 6 Longmont knocked off No. 27 Summit, 3-2, and will next face No. 11 Evergreen, which shutout No. 22 Lutheran, 2-0.
No. 7 Cheyenne Mountain will meet No. 10 Regis Groff in the second round, as Cheyenne Mountain defeated No. 26 Pueblo West, 1-0, and Regis Groff knocked off No. 23 Northridge, 3-1.
No. 8 Montbello and No. 9 Durango both advanced through the first round and will meet in the second round, as Montbello knocked off No. 25 Widefield, 7-2, and Durango shutout No. 24 George Washington, 1-0.
