3A Girls Golf State Championship: First Round Recap

Day 2 Pairings

LOVELAND – The first round of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 2024 3A Girls Golf State Championship was completed today, at the Olde Course at Loveland.

St. Mary’s Academy senior Maddy Bante took another step towards completing her state title three-peat, as she shot 1-under 71 to capture the lead through one day of competition. However, unfortunately for the Wildcats, their quest for a fourth consecutive title hit a snag, as Prospect Ridge Academy stole the first-round lead, with a score of 33-over 249, while St. Mary’s Academy finished the day in second with a score of 43-over 259.

Aiding Prospect Ridge Academy’s bid for the program’s first-ever golf state title was junior Hope Torres, who led the way by shooting 2-over 74 to finish the day in second among the individuals.

Aspen was the only team to place multiple golfers in the top 10, with junior Lenna Persson (7-over 79) tying for third and senior Brook O’Sullivan wrapping up the first round tied for ninth (12-over 84). Those impressive performances helped the Skiers finish the day in third, right behind the defending state champions, with a score of 44-over 260.

Juniors Emma Garcia and Kyndra Johnson, of Rye and Salida, respectively, tied Persson for third, at 7-over 79, while Manitou Springs freshman Manitou Dorsey tied Brooke O’Sullivan for ninth.

Colorado Academy (fourth place, 49-over 265) and Peak to Peak (fifth place, 51-over 267) round out the top five teams through day one of the tournament.

The remaining individual golfers were Sterling junior Macie Doherty, who shot 11-over 83 to place eighth, and Montezuma-Cortez sophomore Amita Crowley and Timnath freshman CheyAnne Schirk, who tied for sixth after each shooting 9-over 81.
 
The final round of the two-round championship will be played on Tuesday. The top-two team finishers will earn a trophy with the top-10 individual finishers being rewarded with a medal.
