Chatfield girls basketball remains undefeated by drubbing rival Dakota Ridge

LITTLETON — Chatfield girls basketball moved its record to 3-0 on the season Friday night with a resounding victory over rival Dakota Ridge.

The Chargers took a 65-20 victory over the Eagles in the first game of a girls/boys varsity doubleheader at Chatfield Senior High School.

“I’m super happy. The team played great as a whole,” Chatfield senior Audrey Hubbell said. “I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I love these girls. We work great together.”

With Chatfield in the Class 6A Jeffco League and Dakota Ridge in the Class 5A/4A Jeffco League for the current 2-year cycle, there will be no conference game between the two schools that are separated by 2.5 miles.

Chatfield took a commanding 20-2 lead after the first quarter. Seven different Chargers scored in the first 8 minutes and Chatfield made a trio of 3-pointers.

Hubbell poured in all of her 10 points in the first half. Her most impressive basket came in the second quarter when she flew into the stands to save a ball. Dakota Ridge was able to get possession, but the Eagles turned the ball over. Hubbell made a layup and was fouled after getting the ball back to push Chatfield’s lead to 31-6 midway through the second quarter.

Senior Ava Erickson had 11 points for Chatfield, including three 3-pointers. Junior Sophia Lachenmayer came off the bench to pour in a game-high 13 points that included a pair of 3-pointers.

“I think we have depth from nine on the floor and our two (JV) swingers,” Chatfield coach Jordan Laczkowski said. “All I want is Valor and Ralston Valley say … ‘We’ve got to watch out for Chatfield.” 

Valor Christian has won five straight Jeffco League titles in the largest classification. Valor claimed the first 6A Jeffco League championship last season when the Colorado High School Activities Association added a 6A classification.

Chatfield hasn’t had a close game during its 3-0 start with wins over Heritage, Glenwood Springs and Dakota Ridge. It will get a lot tougher next week when the Chargers travel to Highlands Ranch to face Rock Canyon.

“We haven’t really been tested to our fullest this season yet,” Hubbell said. “We have been playing great against easier teams. Rock Canyon is going to be a great game. I think we’ll be able to pull through for the win.”

The Jaguars has been just ask dominate as Chatfield getting off to a 5-0 start to the season. Rock Canyon also defeated 4A state runner-up D’Evelyn last week by 16 points. Chatfield and Rock Canyon are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Dakota Ridge (2-3 record) will attempt to get back in the win column when it faces another area rival. The Eagles travel to Columbine for another girls/boys varsity doubleheader that begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12.
