The 2023 Colorado High School Activities Associations’ Unified Bowling State Championships will take place on Friday, Nov. 17 at Bowlero Englewood in Englewood, Colorado.
Regional competitions will take place Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 8-10.
Where will the state championship be?
The state championship will be hosted at Bowlero Englewood (4900 S. Federal Blvd.)
Do I need a ticket to enter?
Yes. One ticket is good for all-day admission. No cash sales will be made for tickets on site, all tickets must be
purchased digitally through GoFan.
How do teams qualify for the state championship?
The top-three teams at each of the nine regional championships will advance to the state championship.
What makes a team?
Teams must be comprised of boys and girls, making it co-ed, and may consist of up to five players. Three students will compete at one time, with at least two students (athletes) with an intellectual disability and no more than one non-intellectually disabled student (partner) playing at one time. A team could play with three athletes, with the athlete participating as a partner.
What is the format of play?
The three-player, co-ed/modified team will play a Baker Game, which is when multiple bowlers bowl one game. Team members will rotate between the three of them with each rolling one ball before the next teammate. Regardless of spare or strike, the next participant will always roll the next ball.
This format gives equal playing time for each member, creating meaningful participation that is essential to the Unified Sports® model.
How are winners determined?
Each team will bowl five Baker Games during one meet. The winner of the meet will be decided by total pinfall. Therefore, the total score from all five games for each team is added together and the team with the most pins wins the event.
Will there be an award ceremony?
The winner and runner-up at the state championships will receive trophies. Members of the state championship team will also receive gold medals and members of the runner-up team will receive silver medals. These medals are in partnership with Special Olympics – Colorado.
