Spirit State Championship Information

The 2023 Colorado high school state spirit championships will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7-9.

All 15 classifications within spirit will be hosted at the same venue, The Denver Coliseum, in Denver.

Where can I find results?
Results can be found on CHSAANow following the conclusion of each day of competition.

Where can I watch the competition?
A live stream of the event can be found on the NFHS Network.

Do I need to buy a ticket to enter?
Yes, tickets can be purchased exclusively through AXS.

Where can I park?
Parking will be available on-site for purchase. You can also purchase your parking ahead of time, exclusively through AXS.

What time will the venue open?
The venue will open to the general public one hour prior to the first performance. That means that doors will open at 8 a.m. on Thursday, and 7 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

When will the competition start?
The first performance on Thursday (Gameday Spirit) will begin at 9:10 a.m, the first performance on Friday (Cheer Spirit) will begin at 8:05 a.m, and the first performance on Saturday (Dance Spirit) will begin at 8:10 a.m.

How do we know when a certain team is performing?
A full schedule, including the names of all the qualified teams, is available on CHSAANow.

What is the format of the competition?
Preliminary competitions in each category will be held throughout their respective day, with qualifying performers then competing in the finals later that night. For Thursday’s Gameday competition, preliminaries will start at 9:10 a.m., with finals beginning at 4:45 p.m. For Friday’s Cheer competition, preliminaries will start at 8:05 a.m., with finals beginning at 7:25 p.m. For Saturday’s Dance competition, preliminaries will start at 8:10 a.m., with finals beginning at 4 p.m.

The digital program includes information on past champions, winners and more! Past champions can also be found in the championship archive.

What happens in the case of a tie?
For Cheer: 1. If tied, judges will go to the “overall cheer impression” category and use the highest score 2. If still tied, judges will then go to the “stunts or crowd leading” category and use the highest score. 3. If still tied, judges will then go to the “overall effect” category and use the highest score

For Dance: 1. If tied, judges will go to the “execution” category and use the highest score 2. If still tied, judges will then go to the “technique” category and use the highest score. 3. If still tied, judges will then go to the “overall effect” category and use the highest score.
