Changes made to girls soccer state championship

AURORA – Due to the Colorado Rapids hosting their Round of 16 match in the US Open Cup at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the Colorado High School Activities Association has made changes to the upcoming girls soccer state championships.

The conflict impacts the 2A and 5A championship games that were previously scheduled for Wednesday, May 24. The 2A championship game will now be played on Tuesday, May 23 at 3 p.m., with the 3A game being pushed back to 5:30 p.m. and the 4A game to 8 p.m. The 5A championship game will be moved to Thursday, May 25 at 6 p.m.

“While we were looking forward to hosting the 2A and 5A Final on Wednesday, May 24th, we understand the complexities around scheduling at a world class soccer specific venue such as Dick’s Sporting Goods Park,” Assistant Commissioner for girls soccer Justin Saylor said. “I would like to personally thank the Colorado Rapids and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment for their flexibility in allowing the CHSAA to host both Finals on alternate dates. We look forward to an incredible event on both May 23rd and 25th and wish the Colorado Rapids luck on Wednesday in their US Open Cup Round of 16 match.”

The semifinal round of the 3A, 4A and 5A state championships will be played on Thursday, May 18, with the 2A semifinals scheduled for Saturday, May 20. The winning teams will advance to the finals.
