DSST: Byers picked up perhaps the biggest win in the history of its young basketball program on Saturday.

The Falcons, who reside a few blocks northwest of Wash Park in Denver, knocked off Class 4A's second-ranked Northfield with a 70-65 win. In just their second year of varsity competition, the 3A team is now 16-1 this season, and ranked No. 8 in the latest RPI standings.

Led by a group of seven seniors on a 10-player roster, including Kyrie Thomas and Elijah Thatch, DSST: Byers has won eight games in a row. Their 16 wins match last season's win total, when they went 16-7 and advanced to the 3A state tournament after winning their district.

The Falcons finish the regular season with games against Ridge View Academy and Vanguard in the final week of the season.
