Softball roundup: Eaglecrest knocks off Class 5A No. 1 Erie

Saturday’s softball slate delivered major top-10 matchups and notable upsets across the state. Several programs reshuffled the daily rankings with impressive victories.

Unranked Eaglecrest (5-3) pulled off a 1-run victory over Class 5A No. 1 Erie (7-1) in a 7-6 finish. Haisley Elliott, who ranks No. 7 statewide in batting average, helped spur the offense to hand Erie its first loss of the season.

Mountain Vista 6, (6) Chaparral 5 — Unranked Mountain Vista (4-2) protected its home field with a 1-run victory over No. 6 Chaparral (6-3).

Horizon 7, (7) Valor Christian 4 — Unranked Horizon (4-4) earned a 7-4 win over Class 5A No. 7 Valor Christian (7-4).

Eaton 16, (6) Palmer Ridge 3 — Unranked Eaton (6-5) earned a 16-3 win over No. 6 Palmer Ridge (9-4). The game featured Paige Hofer, who ranks No. 8 statewide in home runs, and Kayleigh Garcia, who ranks No. 2 statewide in home runs.

(7) Pueblo West 4, (4) Pueblo County 1 — No. 7 Pueblo West (7-2) secured a 4-1 victory against No. 4 Pueblo County (9-2), holding in check an offense featuring Bella Mares, who ranks No. 10 statewide in RBI.

(3) University 15, (9) Elizabeth 5 — No. 3 University (10-2) took a 15-5 victory over No. 9 Elizabeth (5-6), despite Allie Dey ranking No. 2 statewide in slugging percentage for Elizabeth.

4A No. 6 Palmer Ridge 20, 3A No. 9 Elizabeth 10 — 4A No. 6 Palmer Ridge generated 20 runs in a 20-10 win against 3A No. 9 Elizabeth.

3A No. 6 Berthoud 7, 4A No. 8 Roosevelt 3 — 3A No. 6 Berthoud (10-2) earned a 7-3 victory over 4A No. 8 Roosevelt (10-4) behind Camryn Olivas, who ranks No. 3 statewide in RBI. Following the victory, Berthoud climbed to No. 3 in the Class 3A rankings.
