Arapahoe softball improves to 3-0 with another comeback win

CENTENNIAL — Arapahoe’s softball team has trailed by multiple runs in all three of the Warriors’ games early this season.
However, the Warriors have had no issues battling from behind. Arapahoe’s latest come-from-behind victory came at home Wednesday against Green Mountain. The Rams took an early lead with a 3-run first inning, but it was all Warriors after the opening frame.
Arapahoe took a 6-3 win to improve its record to 3-0 on the season. The Warriors also trailed in games against Widefield and Regis, but managed wins in those games.
Junior pitcher Regan McGinnis allowed three of the Rams’ first four batters to reach base and score in the first inning. Senior Dalilah Camacho had an RBI single, junior Madison Nash had an RBI groundout and senior Evyn Harris had an RBI double for Green Mountain (0-1 record) in the first inning.
McGinnis settled in nicely scattering just three hits and not allowing a run in the final six innings.
Offensively, Arapahoe (3-0) cut the Rams’ lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second inning. Three walks allowed the Warriors to plate a pair of runs in the inning without a hit.
Sophomore Ali Berger gave Arapahoe the lead with a 2-run RBI single in the third inning off Green Mountain sophomore Cadence Beery, who came in relief to pitch in the third inning. It was the first varsity experience for Beery and the Rams’ starting pitcher Evyn Harris had only pitched a few innings last season.
The graduation of Jenna Neuenschwander left the biggest hole for the Rams to fill this season. Neuenschwander pitched over 247 innings for Green Mountain the past two seasons as the Rams’ workhorse in the circle.
Beery pitched a solid 3 and two-third innings, but Arapahoe freshman Emma Henry hit a towering 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Warriors a 3-run lead.
McGinnis retired the final nine batters she faced to allow the Warriors to become the first 5A team in the state to get off to a 3-0 start this season.
Green Mountain will have its home opener at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, against Forge Christian (0-0).
