EVERGREEN - The Colorado High School Activities Association hosted its third annual Women in Leadership Conference on Wednesday, at the Evergreen Lake House, in Evergreen.
CHSAA Associate Commissioners Bethany Brookens and Jenn Roberts-Uhlig welcomed the group and provided some introductions of Real Self-Care, which focused on the book, "
Real Self-Care (Crystals, Cleanses, and Bubble Baths Not Included)" by Pooja Lakshmin. All attendees received a copy of the book.
"Our third annual Women and Leadership event was another huge success," Roberts-Uhlig said. "There's something truly powerful about bringing together so many inspiring women leaders, changemakers, and visionaries for a day of connection, reflection, and empowerment. I especially want to thank our panelists, guests speakers and meditation leader who all reminded us many times throughout the day how important networking and community is, and how we're all going through the same things together."
Said Brookens: "We were maxed out at 200 attendees and it was great to see not only athletic and activity directors here, but we also had a ton of coaches and trainers and officials, middle school personnel and teachers as well as principals and even small business owners. I feel like our net is reaching more and more women."
The day started with a meditation led by Luci Lambert Kosloski before breakfast.
The first session of the day was hosted by CHSAA Board of Directors member and Montrose High School Principal Heidi Voehringer and focused on Setting Boundaries and Moving Past Guilt.
The second session featured Fossil Ridge Assistant Principal Sonja Gedde, the US Tennis Association's Angela Finan, and USA Rugby's Jamie Burke as panelists talking about Treating Yourself with Compassion.
Following a lunch and networking break, Greeley West Assistant Principal Amanda Jones led a session on Brings You Closer to Yourself. Then the final panel took the floor to talk about Assertion of Power. Cleo Parker Robinson (Cleo Parker Robinson Dance), Jennifer Anderson-Ehrlich (Sportswomen of Colorado) and Voehringer served as the panelists.
The day concluded with a wrap-up and takeaways. Throughout the day, there was time to walk or hike around the lake.
"I think the event was amazing," Brookens said. "I appreciated how there were more interactions amongst the attendees talking about the four items from the book. And I thought the panelists were extremely strong. It was such a pleasure to get to know these other women even better and to realize how similar we all are, how we have the same struggles and the same successes."
