Volleyball: State Champions Crowned on Final Day of Tournament

DENVER – All five of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s state champions were crowned Saturday on the final day of the 2025 Girls Volleyball State Championships at the Denver Coliseum. 

Valor Christian outlasted Chaparral in a marathon of a 5A final, as the Eagles pulled off a 24-22 fifth-set victory to win their fourth-straight state title. Simla was also victorious in 2A, capturing its first state championship since 1996, while Fleming won its first 1A title since 2019, Eaton its first 3A since 2020 and Univeristy its first 4A championship since 2021. 

Prior to the start of the championship game, the Colorado High School Coaches Association (CHSCA) recognized the volleyball coach awards from the 2024 season and celebrated the first-ever girls volleyball state champions as part of its 50 Years of Volleyball Celebration. Prairie (Class A), Valley (Class AA) and Mitchell (Class AAA) were the inaugural state champions back in 1974, while Limon (Class A), Platte Valley (Class AA) and Columbine (Class AAA) were the runners up in that inaugural tournament.

For the CHSCA recognition, coaches are nominated and voted on following the current season and then recognized during the next state tournament. 

• The Pioneer Award was established in order to recognize an individual who has helped to pave the way for others to follow. Their service, leadership contributions to volleyball, and longevity have made it possible for others to pursue their passion to coach volleyball. The 2024 award winner is Michelle Chacon from Valley High School.
• The Horizon Award was established to recognize newer coaches who have been at their schools at least three years and whose enthusiasm and involvement in their volleyball program has made significant improvements in their school’s overall success. The 2024 award winner is Eddie Chacon from Centauri High School.  
• The Coach of the Year Award was established to recognize coaches who have made a significant impact on the progression of individual and team volleyball performance at a district, regional and state level. The 2024 award winner is Ben Reeser from Resurrection Christian.
