AURORA - Late last week, boys tennis teams across the state of Colorado competed in the Colorado High School Activities Association's individual regional championships to secure a spot in next week's Boys Tennis Individual State Championships. In addition, team points were used during the individual regionals to be able to crown Team Regional Champions.
In 5A, four of the eight regional champions - Cherry Creek, Fossil Ridge, Regis Jesuit and Valor Christian - advanced all seven lines to next week's individual state championships, while Arapahoe, Grandview, Lakewood and ThunderRidge all won its regional title and will send six lines to the individual state championships. The 5A Boys Tennis Individual State Championships will be played Thursday through Saturday at Denver Tennis Park in Denver. Individual draws will be released later this morning.
In 4A, seven of the eight regional champions - Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Academy, Discovery Canyon, George Washing, Grand Junction, Kent Denver and Peak to Peak - all claimed regional titles and advanced all seven lines to the individual state championships. Dawson School also captured a regional title and will send six lines to the individual state championships. The 4A Boys Tennis Individual State Championships will be played Thursday through Saturday at Pueblo City Park in Pueblo.
In total, 16 schools advanced all seven lines to next week's individual state championships. In 5A, Heritage and Ralston Valley will join the four regional champions with all seven lines advancing, while D'Evelyn, Mullen and Wheat Ridge also qualified seven lines to the 4A individual championships.
The top-two players/doubles teams in each position automatically qualified for the Boys Tennis Individual State Championships. The brackets for the Boys Tennis Individual State Championships will be released later this morning with all
individual qualifiers listed here.
The team state champion will be determined through the Boys Tennis Dual Team State Championship. Play in
those brackets started earlier in October with the semifinals being scheduled for tomorrow and the state championship matches set for Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Denver Tennis Park.
