3A Boys Golf: Lutheran, Mullen Tied After First Round

EAGLE — Lutheran and Mullen are tied for first with three-player scores of 5-over par 221 after Monday’s opening day of the 3A Boys State Golf Championships.

The second and final round is Tuesday.

Senior Nicholas Brooks of Lutheran leads the individual standings after firing a first round of 6-under par 66. Senior Jackson Beldy of Mullen is three strokes back at 69, while seniors Dayne Schmidke of Eaton and Jack Brayman of Peak to Peak are tied for fourth at 1-under 71. Manitou Springs junior Hayden Dorsey and Holy Family senior Bobby Flaherty are tied for fifth at 72.

Among individuals, at 73, there’s a three-way tie for seventh among senior Cayden Hajek of Resurrection Christian, junior Hudson Arnold of Basalt and sophomore Greysen Kilburn of Timnath. Resurrection Christian sophomore Levi McDowell is 10th at 74.

Brooks is trying to improve upon his ninth-place finish from last year, while Brayman was third in 2024.

Helping Brooks for Lutheran are juniors Crew Fitzgerald, who shot 77, and Gavin Pittman at 78. Helping the cause for Beldy and Mullen are junior John McMullan at 75 and senior Michael Fugate at 77.

Also in the team race, Resurrection Christian is third at 223, Basalt is fourth at 226, and Timnath is seventh at 227.
