Boys Tennis: Quarterfinal Matchups Set in Team Tournament




AURORA – The first round of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s Boys Tennis Team State Championships was completed today, with all 16 teams in both classifications playing their first-round matches.
In the 5A bracket, No. 11 seed Mountain Vista earned the lone upset of the first round by edging off No. 6 seed Arapahoe, 4-3. The Golden Eagles advanced to play No. 3 seed Valor Christian, a 5-2 winner over No. 14 Heritage, on Friday.
Also Friday, No. 1 Regis Jesuit will play No. 8 Lakewood, No. 2 Cherry Creek takes on No. 7 Fairview and No. 4 Grandview faces No. 5 Fossil Ridge.
In the 4A bracket, the No. 11 seed also prevailed, with Grand Junction defeating No. 6 Evergreen 6-1. The Tigers will now play No. 3 seed Peak to Peak, which defeated No. 14 Littleton 7-0.
The other quarterfinal matches will see No. 1 Kent Denver taking on No. 8 Discovery Canyon, No. 2 Colorado Academy facing No. 7 George Washington, No. 4 D’Evelyn playing No. 5 Mullen.
Friday’s winners advance to the Oct. 14 semifinals, and the championship is scheduled for Oct. 21.
