AURORA - No. 17 Loveland and No. 19 Golden were among the winners this weekend in first-round 4A state football playoff games. They were the only teams in 4A to post wins over teams with better seeds. There is one first-round game still scheduled for Monday.

Loveland defeated No. 16 Doherty 45-14 to move into a second-round game against No. 1 Dakota Ridge, while Golden beat No. 14 Riverdale Ridge 17-14 and will now play No. 3 Pueblo West.

Other first-round winners were No. 9 Grand Junction, No. 10 Monarch, No. 12 Vista Ridge, No. 13 Rampart and No. 15 Frederick. On Monday, No. 11 Heritage faces No. 22 Air Academy.

The top eight seeds all received first-round byes.

Grand Junction, a 59-29 winner over No. 24 Longmont, moves on to play No. 8 Ponderosa.

Rampart defeated No. 20 Grand Junction Central 40-7 and will now battle No. 4 Palmer Ridge.

Vista Ridge was a 35-8 victor against No. 21 Highlands Ranch and advances to play No. 5 Broomfield.

Frederick's 32-14 win against No. 18 Northfield sets up a contest against No. 2 Montrose.

Monarch, after defeating No. 23 Bear Creek 28-7, now plays No. 7 Mesa Ridge.

No. 11 Heritage topped No. 22 Air Academy 62-0 and moves on to play No. 6 Durango.
