After an undefeated 2022 campaign, Valor Christian has to remain atop CHSAA’s 5A volleyball rankings, but Rock Canyon is nipping at their heels thanks to a stellar postseason run and star junior Alivia Eikenberg. As back-to-back champions with three returning first-team All-State players, Thompson Valley is beginning to look like a 4A volleyball dynasty. Wiggins was the top 2A team for much of last season, but their upset loss to Fowler and Sedgwick’s dominant state title run in the playoffs is enough to drop Wiggins from the top spot. Winning state titles is a family business for Merino. Led by 1A Coach of the Year Christin Sutter and her two daughters, including the returning 1A Player of the Year, Makenna Sutter, it’s easy to see how Merino has started to form a dynasty lording over the 1A volleyball landscape. That said, McClave and their two returning All-State athletes present a dangerous foe for the Rams.
