MONTROSE - Following a rainy first round of the 4A Boys Golf State Championships at The Bridges Golf & Country Club on Monday, Evergreen leads the team race and the Cougars’ Liam Houlihan is atop the individual leaderboard.
 
Entering tomorrow’s final round, Houlihan holds a one-stroke lead over teammate Tyler Long, Grand Junction’s Jack Kaul and Littleton’s Jack Finch, who are all tied for second with an even 71. Houlihan finished the first round at 1-under 70.
 
In fifth place is Emmett Shell, who, at 1-over 72, has a one-stroke lead over a four-way tie for sixth, as Windsor’s Tadese Keyworth, Grand Junction’s Hunter Simmons, Riverdale Ridge’s Will Balliet and Steamboat Springs’ Charlie Reisman are all at 2-over 73.
 
Rounding out the top-10 is Montrose’s Noah Richmond with a 3-over 74.
 
Among the teams, Evergreen posted a 5-over 218 and will take the lead heading into the final round. One stroke separates second and third place, as Riverdale Ridge turned in a 223 today and Grand Junction followed at 224. In fourth place sits Lutheran, at 228, while Windsor is one stroke back of that, and in fifth place, at 229.
 
The final round of the two-round championship will be played on Tuesday. The top-two team finishers will earn a trophy with the top-10 individual finishers being rewarded with a medal.
