Palmer Ridge QB Ty Evans named football player of the year by Gatorade
Palmer Ridge quarterback Ty Evans was named Colorado’s football player of the year by Gatorade on Monday morning.
Evans, a junior, now becomes a finalist for the national Gatorade player of the year award, which will be announced later this month.
The Gatorade player of the year award honors the top players in each state, using academics, athletics and character as criteria.
Evans, who has a 3.14 GPA, threw for 3,659 yards and 42 touchdowns last season in helping Palmer Ridge go 14-0 and win the Class 3A championship. It was the first football title in school history.
He aids neighborhood clean-up efforts, is active with Habitat for Humanity, and also coaches and referees youth football. At Palmer Ridge, he serves on the Principal’s Leadership Advisory Committee.
“Ty is so good, he is like an ambassador for Colorado high school football,” Coronado High head coach Monte Gutowski said in a statement. “He’s just a great talent who can help blaze a path for others in the state.”
Evans is the first Palmer Ridge football player to ever win the Gatorade award, and the fourth overall.
