Broomfield's Linnie Malkin named softball player of the year by Gatorade - Colorado High School Activities Association

Linnie Malkin of Broomfield was named Colorado’s softball player of the year by Gatorade on Monday morning.

The senior, who plays third base, helped the Eagles reach the Class 5A championship game last fall. She hit .603 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. After the season, she was named to first-team all-state.

“Linnie Malkin is a great kid and an outstanding softball player,” Fossil Ridge coach Dave Philop said in a statement. “She hits the ball a ton and she’s a great defensive player with a cannon for an arm. She’s got tremendous talent. I’m very anxious not to have to face her next year.”

Malkin, who has a 3.38 GPA, has signed to play softball at the University of Arkansas.
