Former Centennial League football rivals Cherry Creek and Grandview set to face off
AURORA — It will be a Friday night under the lights for two rivals who used to meet annually in a Centennial League game.
Although they are not in the same conferences any more, players on both sides feel that this is one of their bigger games so far this year.
It will be homecoming for the Grandview Wolves and they plan to take full advantage of an amped up crowd.
“You have to treat it like every other game” senior quarterback Gunnar Lamphere said. “(We have to) not let the emotions get the best of (us) and just have fun and play hard”
On the other sideline, Cherry Creek will look to spoil the big night.
“(It’s) very crucial (we start hot) because getting off to a good start will give us energy for the rest of the game,” senior tight end Connor Till said. “(This game will be) just as intense because it’s still a huge rivalry between the schools. Our coaches told us to get ready for the most physical game we will play all year and it’s going to be a battle for all 48 minutes.”
It will be interesting to see to which teams game style tonight’s game sways, Cherry Creek has only allowed 35 points all year while the Grandview offense has scored 109 total points.
Both teams remained the in the Class 5A CHSAANow.com top 10 when the rankings were released earlier this week.
The Bruins won their home opener last week, beating Arapahoe 28-3 while Grandview is coming off a shocking loss to Eaglecrest.
Tonight’s action can be streamed live on the NFHS Network. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
