John C. Casey of Eaton is one of the first names in CHSAA history. The first Board of Control minutes name him temporary secretary; the historical snapshot remembers J. C. Casey of Eaton in that founding circle. He later served as secretary-treasurer of the Colorado High School Athletic Conference while R. W. Truscott rose toward the commissioner's role.
On November 20, 1926, the Greeley Tribune reported from Pueblo that Casey would resign, effective December 4:
“Casey Will Resign as Athletic Body Officer”
President R. L. Hunt announced the resignation as the board of control prepared for its annual session. The main agenda item that winter: choosing a site for the March 1927 basketball tournament from invitations across the state.
Casey had already been present at the 1925 Boulder meeting that welcomed Denver's overture toward membership — still listed there as secretary alongside Hunt. His resignation marks the end of the Conference's first generation of day-to-day leadership and the handoff toward the longer Truscott commissioner era.
