LAKEWOOD - The 2026 Colorado High School Activities Association's Boys Track and Field State Championship wrapped up Saturday at Jeffco Stadium. Throughout the three days, 70 individual champions were crowned across the five classifications, in addition to 20 relay champions and five teams.
Among the team champions, there were two first-time winners in Coal Ridge (3A) and McClave (1A). In 5A, Fort Collins won its 18th overall title - the second-most in the state - but its first since 2012. Niwot repeated in 4A, winning its fourth overall title, while Peyon captured its third title in the last four years and fourth overall.
On Thursday, one Colorado state high school record was broken, as Niwot's 4x800 meter relay team of Quinn Sullivan, Ryder Keeton, Corven Peterson, Rocco Culpepper ran 7:37.24 to better the time of 7:42.58 ran in 2023 by Mountain Vista. The 29-year-old 4A state meet record in the shot put was also broken by Palmer Ridge's Owen Twesme, who threw 60-11.00 to win gold. The previous mark had been set by Carlos Tarin at 60-04.75 in 1997.
On Friday, another Colorado state record fell, as Fort Collin's quartet of Andre Rose, Jackson Ruff, Preston Mozer and Dj Ruff clocked a time of 1:24.57 to better Cherokee Trail's time of 1:24.93 from 2024. That mark also stands as a new all-classification state meet record and 5A state meet record.
Three other state meet classification records fell on Friday, as four runners beat Cheyenne Mountain's William Mayhew's previous 4A state meet record of 1:50.74 in the 800m. It's Summit's Jay McDonald that will now top the leaderboards, as he claimed the title in 1:48.64. In 3A, Harrison's 4x200 meter relay team of Thiago Roberts, Janoah Brown, Javon Gibbs, Rawlston John combined for a time of 1:26.56 to beat Harrison's previous record of 1:27.78 from last season. Finally, The Vanguard's Max MIller shattered the 2A state meet record in the 3200 meters, as his time of 9:17.67 topped Golden View Classical's Bobby Kiesewetter's time of 9:25.63 from the 2025 state meet.
Haxtun's Zach Statz had a big day on the final day of competition, as he broke two 1A state meet records. His time of 10.88 in the 100 shattered former teammate Ryland Wolff's time of 11.04 from last year, while his 200m time 21.91 broke the previous record of 22.32 set by North Park's Clay Russell in 2014.
Two additional 1A state meet records fell on Saturday, as Otis' Jayce Ballah moved the 1A state meet pole vault record up 5 inches, with his 14-06.00 topping Akron's Ryan McCaffrey, who cleared 14-01.00 in 2024. And then, in the triple jump, Swink's Javin Summers lept 45-03.75 to beat Elton Yarger's jump of 44-08.25 for Stratton in 2019.
In 2A, ?Thomas Mahoney, of Telluride, beat the previous record that had initially been set by Jake Toneyo of Simla in 2008 and then tied by Hoehne's Tyler Cappellucci in 2012 and Peyton's Landon Hadley in 2024. North Fork's 4x100 relay mark of 43.10, ran by Alex Csere-Bitonio, Diego Debarros, Iain Straub and Gunnar Le, narrowly beat Paonia's previous 1A state meet record time of 43.11 from 2011.
Cherry Creek's 4x100 relay team of Alijah Landrum-Hamilton, Jayden Spencer, Chase PIttman, Brandon Veasley Jr. also set a 5A state meet record by running 40.94. That time shattered Overland's time of 41.21 from 2007.
The 4A state meet record in the 300 hurdles was erased by Roosevelt's Owen Hays as he completed the race in 36.50 to break the 16-year-old record previously set at 36.81 by Trevor Brown (Wassan).
Finally, in 3A, Marcus Munoz, from Coal Ridge, jumped 23-02.75 in long jump to break the state meet record of 23-01.50, previously set by Chrisly Kelly-Cannon (Jefferson Academy) in 2021.
