Boys Track and Field: State and Meet Records Fall on Day 1

LAKEWOOD - The 2026 Colorado High School Activities Association's Boys Track and Field State Championship began Thursday at Jeffco Stadium. Throughout the first day, 14 individual champions were crowned across the five classifications, in addition to four relay champions.

Along the way, one Colorado state high school record was broken, as Niwot's 4x800 meter relay team of Quinn Sullivan, Ryder Keeton, Corven Peterson, Rocco Culpepper ran 7:37.24 to better the time of 7:42.58 ran in 2023 by Mountain Vista. The 29-year-old 4A state meet record in the shot put was also broken by Palmer Ridge's Owen Twesme, who threw 60-11.00 to win gold. The previous mark had been set by Carlos Tarin at 60-04.75 in 1997. 

Additional individual champions will be awarded tomorrow with all team champions being named Saturday.
