Due to current fires affecting air quality in Colorado, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) wants to make sure all athletic programs are monitoring conditions closely and making informed decisions regarding outdoor activities.
Please review the SMAC Alert for Guidance Around High Pollution and Smoke Events, which provides guidance on recommended precautions and activity modifications based on air quality levels. The document should be used as a reference when determining whether practices, games, or other outdoor activities should be modified, postponed, or canceled.
CHSAA asks that administrators:
- Monitor local air quality conditions regularly throughout the day.
- ?Follow the guidelines in the attached document when making decisions about outdoor athletic participation.
- Prioritize the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.
- Be prepared to adjust, relocate indoors, delay, or cancel activities if air quality levels reach unhealthy thresholds.
Athletes with asthma or other respiratory conditions may be particularly sensitive to poor air quality, so please take additional care when evaluating participation.

Check the local Air Quality Index (AQI) online (http://apcd.state.co.us/all_sites_map_ags.aspx) and do a visual inspection outside.
