Girls Basketball: First Round Updates for 5A, 6A

AURORA - The first round of the Colorado High School Activities Association's Girls Basketball State Championship has been completed for both the 5A and 6A classifications. 

There were only three upsets among the 16 first-round contests played, with No. 35 Chatfield's 43-28 win over No. 30 Castle View in the 6A bracket being the biggest upset. No. 34 Fossil Ridge also got past No. 31 Mountain Vista, 41-38, to advance in 6A. 

In 5A, No. 33 Cheyenne Mountain ?snuck past No. 32 Eagle Valley, 50-40. 

All second round games will be played on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the home sites of the higher seed with the winners advancing to the Sweet 16 at home sites on Wednesday, March 4. The Great 8 will be hosted at the Denver Coliseum on Friday, March 6 for 6A and Saturday, March 7 for 5A, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, March 12 and the championship games on Saturday, March 14.
