THORNTON - Following six days of the CHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving State Championships at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center, three teams, 23 individuals and nine relay state champions have been crowned.
Over the course of the three classification meets, one overall meet record was broken and a total of four classificiation meet records fell.
Cherry Creek won its sixth straight and 32nd overall championship in 5A, while Broomfield in 4A and Kent Denver in 3A earned their first state titles in girls swimming and diving.
Individually, in 5A, Cherry Creek sophomore Kate McKinnon improved to 8 for 8 in state championship competition, winning two more individual events (200 freestyle and 100 freestyle) and two more relays (400 freestyle, 200 freestyle) to add to the four championships she won as a freshman (two relays, 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle). She halfway to becoming Colorado's fourth swimmer with eight individual state titles.
Windsor's Reagan Annable set the overall state meet record in winning the 4A diving title with a score of 588.20.
Also in 4A, Lewis-Palmer sophomore Grace Perry set a 4A state meet record while winning the 100 butterfly in 53.89 seconds.
In 3A, sophomore Elsa Anderson was part of two state meet classification records, individually in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.07) and in the 400 freestyle relay with teammates Camryn Williams, Hadley Carrington and Valerie Williams, who combined to finish in 3:32.19.
McKinnon and Perry (who also won the 200 freestyle) were among four to win two individual events: the others were 3A Kent Denver senior Lorelai Frauenfelder in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle and 3A Discovery Canyon sophomore Alaia Sloan in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Monarch senior Audrey Shambo was the meet's only three-time individual champion in a single event, once again capturing the 100 breaststroke in 4A.
McKinnon (100 freestyle), Frauenfelder (100 freestyle), Valor Christian sophomore Ellie Wiesen (200 IM) and St. Mary's Academy senior Mia Williams (3A diving) won their respective events for a second consecutive year.
