Mauch, Reid Receive Excellence Beyond Athletics Award

AURORA -- CHSAA State Representatives recently selected Wiley's Grant Mauch and Springfield's Dakota Reid as the 2025 recipients of the Excellence Beyond Athletics award.

The award is presented at the Lamar Chamber of Commerce Holiday Basketball Tournament each year. Participating schools include Eads, Granada, Holly, Kit Carson, McClave, Springfield, Walsh, and Wiley. Athletic directors nominate students who have demonstrated leadership, courage, service, and respect for human dignity, both on and off the court.

Mauch leads by example through his character, kindness, and unwavering commitment to doing what is right, consistently creating an environment where others feel valued and supported.

Reid’s leadership is equally impactful, demonstrated through her roles in student council, 4-H, and community service, where she brings people together and uplifts those around her through meaningful initiatives.

Together, they represent the very best of student leadership—selfless, dependable, and deeply committed to honoring the dignity of others in their schools and communities.

The awards were presented to Mauch and Reid by Brakelle Westphal - CHSAA's sports management intern who has taken a leadership role with the CHSAA State Reps this year - and Randy Holmen - a longtime educator, administrator, coach, superintendent and official.

Last year, the inaugural awards went to Shay Rady and Ashley Koch from Kit Carson as well as Parker Arbuthnot from Springfield.
