AURORA - The 2025-26 bylaws for the Colorado High School Activities Association went into effect as of July 1.
The major bylaw changes for this upcoming year include:
CLOC Timelines and Logistics
Constitution & Bylaws, Article 15, Rules 1500.2-1500.48
- Beginning with the 2026-28 cycle, classification data will now be presented in the Fall of the odd numbered years preceding the beginning of the two-year classification cycle. In addition, programs that have been dominating in a classification can be placed up, and criteria has been set to identify and place down programs that are struggling.
Classification & League Placement Determinations
Constitution & Bylaws, Article 15, Rules 1510
- A process has been established for member schools that don’t report their enrollment to CDE in order for them to report their requested enrollment data to the CHSAA office.
Transfer Types (Military, Guardianship & Administrative)
Constitution & Bylaws, Article 18, Rules 1800.31-1800.33
- Adjustments to transfer bylaws were made, with a formalized process and guidelines set around transfers due to military reassignment (Bylaw 1800.31), a legal change of guardianship (Bylaw 1800.32) and administrative transfers (Bylaw 1800.33).
Amateur Status (Name, Image & Likeness)
Constitution & Bylaws, Article 20, Rules 2000.1-2000.8
- Clarification around amateur status was added to the bylaws. In summary, a student may benefit from the use of their name, image and likeness (NIL) provided the NIL is not connected to their CHSAA high school, team or activity program. Bylaw 2000.4 outlines additional guidelines around NIL.
Administrative Control
Constitution & Bylaws, Article 2200, Rule 2260.2
- Each member school participating in any postseason event is required to have a designated school administrator or representative on-site for the duration of the event. This individual must be empowered to act on behalf of the school and be responsible for addressing any matters related to the event, including, but not limited to, student-athlete safety, sportsmanship, and compliance with CHSAA regulations. The administrator must be visible and available to event officials, CHSAA representatives, and event staff.
Sunday Practice - Ice Hockey & Alpine Skiing
Constitution & Bylaws, Article 23, Rule 2310.5
- During the formal competitive sports season, a coach may have contact with his or her team on Sunday for ice hockey and/or alpine skiing for interscholastic practices that are strictly voluntary and at a race venue (alpine skiing). At no time may a team have more than six days of athletic contact during any one week.
